Cecilia Mae Newton Sargeant, 81 of Fort Oglethorpe, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 6, 2023. She has resided in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia for the last four years and previously lived in Wichita, Kansas. Cecilia is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Oglethorpe and enjoyed gardening, singing, sewing, and crocheting. She loved spending time studying her bible and used to direct the church choir while in Kansas. Cecilia never met a stranger and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos Newton, and Thelma Macon Newton; son-in-law, David Waits, and brother, Jimmy “Bruce” Newton and sister-in-law, Glenda Newton. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Jack Sargeant Sr.; children, Judy Waits, Jack Sargeant Jr.; grandchildren, David III, Aimee, Cecilia, Aaron, Katherine, Jack III, ten great grandchildren as well as many extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
