Charles “Charlie” Edward Payne, 86 of Chattanooga, TN passed away Thursday, May 4th, 2023.
Charlie was born and raised in the Chattanooga area and graduated from Central High School. He was a dedicated member, associate pastor, and Sunday school teacher at New Covent Church. Charlie worked for the State of Tennessee for 15 years, for Wilcor sporting attire as a supervisor for 25 years, and owned and operated his own construction business. In his free time Charlie enjoyed building and creating things in his workshop. He was a hardworking and headstrong man who is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Diana Payne; parents, Charles and Louise Payne; granddaughter, Brooke Barker; siblings: Jane Langley, Emalyne Taylor, and Bobbie Langley.
Survivors include his children: Debi (Danny) Hatcher, Tammy (Dean) Peters, Angel (Michael) Seabolt, and Lenny Nichols; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, William (Nina) Payne; sister, Judy Goodner; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 12th, 2023 from 1-3pm in the South Crest Chapel with the memorial service beginning at 3pm.
