It is with deep sadness that we announce Charles Ralph Gravitt, age 90, of Lookout Mountain, GA passed away on November 8, 2025, in the house that he built, surrounded by his loved ones. He came from a long line of sawmillers. He retired from Chattanooga Tufters as a machinist; but any type of woodworking, building, masonry, or gardening was his passion. You would rarely see him unless he was working. He loved to stay busy. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle and all-around good man. He was blessed with knowledge that went beyond standard education. He loved the Lord and found his truth by the words written in red. The Earth is a sadder place without him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bartow and Mary “Grider” Gravitt; siblings, Ruby Gravitt Lusk, Emma Cates, Mildred Gravitt Morrow, Harold Gravitt, Willis Gravitt, and Jesse Gravitt as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Derryberry Gravitt; son, Charles Edward “Ed” Gravitt; daughter, Vickie Lynn Gravitt; sister, Delephene Gravitt Simmons; best friend, Granvil Cates, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hearth Hospice and Anna Brooks.

Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe, GA from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and 10:00 – 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Pastor Cecil Gravitt officiating.
