Charles Richard Haun, 92, passed into the gates of Heaven on May 27, 2023. He loved attending church at Spring Creek Church of God where he received prayers, hugs, handshakes and the words of encouragement. Charles loved to hunt in Wyoming and deep-sea fishing in Florida. Both Charles and his late wife, Kathleen, loved traveling and went to all 50 states, even visiting Hawaii twice.
Charles joined the Air Force on January 5, 1951 and was discharged November 26, 1954. During his service, he was stationed in Japan where he worked in the hospital helping care for soldiers. Later in life, as a retired veteran, he volunteered at the VA where he met and assisted other veterans. Also, Charles joined the American Legion Post 40 in Ringgold where he met once a month in the evening with fellow veterans.
He worked at Memorial Hospital from 1965-1993 as a laboratory technician, specializing in chemistry, and was a member of the American Medical Technology Association for 50 years. After retiring and spending time traveling, Charles made the decision to return to once again to the laboratory at Memorial part-time in 2001. Finally at age 80, on his birthday, Charles retired for the final time.
Those who have passed before him are his wife, Kathleen, to whom he was married 69 ½ years, mother – Lorraine Haun, dad – JT Haun, step-mother – Carrie Bell Haun, sister – Joyce Daniel and brothers – Johnny and Kenneth Haun.
Those remaining whom Charles left fond memories are his brother James (Wilma) Haun, his three daughters, Nancy Trewhitt, Dianne Moore and Rhonda (Danny) Holt. He also enjoyed being Pappaw to his four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He also leaves a host of other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 – 5:30 PM EST with the funeral service following on Tuesday, May 30, 2021 at Spring Creek Church of God, 1005 Spring Creek Rd. East Ridge, TN 37412.
Burial will take place at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 1:00 PM with full military honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the American Legion Post 40 in Ringgold.
