Colonel (Retired, USAF) Joseph L. Hood, age 86, of LaFayette passed away Friday, July 28, 2023.
Joe was born on April 2, 1937 to Guiley and Eloise Hood. He was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy; and a granddaughter, Sierra.
Joe is survived by his wife, Hilda; sons, Blake and Lance; and grandchildren, Victoria and Joe.
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, the U.S. Naval War College, and earned a master’s degree from George Washington University.
Joe retired from the Air Force with 23 years of service as a Colonel. His many assignments included the nuclear bombers first assigned to a B-52 crew, and later assigned to a B-58 crew, and a one, two-year assignment as the Air Force Liaison Officer to the government of Guam. After retiring from the Air Force, he farmed and raised cattle for many years.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Autry officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 12 p.m. until the hour of service.
A private interment will take place at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
Honorary pallbearers are Donald Blackwell, Don Henderson, Joseph Jackson, Dale Lamb, Kim Millican, and Jim Ramey.
