Rev. Dewey Blalock, age 96, of LaFayette left his earthly home to gain his Heavenly reward and to meet his blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, face-to-face on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was a faithful pastor for 47 years and was a veteran of the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Vinnie Blalock; parents, Wilburn R. Blalock and Velma Bell Blalock; and brothers, Ed, Roy and Jr. Blalock.
Rev. Dewey had a love for his Heavenly father, his family, and others. He became licensed to preach on May 17, 1959. He was ordained to pastor on June 14, 1959, and with seven appointments ahead of him, he accepted the call to pastor Calvary Baptist Church the day of his ordination. In honor of his lengthy and dedicated ministry to the church, he affectionately earned the title Pastor Emeritus. When he wasn’t preaching or serving others, Rev. Dewey could be found on the creek bank fishing. He retired from North Georgia Furniture and later started his own upholstery business.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Darlene) Blalock; grandchildren, Ryan Blalock and Emily (Chris) Mitchell; great grandchildren, Cayley, Nelson, Riley and Remi Blalock, and Julian, Tyler and Carter Mitchell; sister, Nadine Batton; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastors Randy Avans and Malcolm Harris officiating.
Interment will be held at LaFayette Memory Gardens with Pastor Lloyd Gilreath officiating.
Pallbearers are Gary Cordell, Phil Long, Julius Richardson, Brennon Burnette, Jacob Burnette, and Eric Ridley.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men and Ladies Sunday School class of Calvary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.
