Dora Hicks
May 22, 2023

Dora Middleton Hicks of Armuchee, Georgia, passed away on May 22, 2023. She was born November 13, 1933, to Edgar and Jesse Middleton. Dora married the love of her life, Jere D. Hicks, on December 30, 1955. Dora and Jere enjoyed several years of military life. Jere was a Marine, and Dora loved sharing fond memories of their time at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She was a proud military wife and member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ladies Auxiliary Unit 525. Following Jere’s military service, they moved to LaFayette, Georgia, and later Armuchee, Georgia, where they built their home and raised their family.

Dora enjoyed baking and cooking. She was well known for her homemade cakes and fried chicken. She also enjoyed raising gardens and growing beautiful plants and flowers. Although she enjoyed these things, keeping her grandchildren is what she enjoyed most. She attended every ballgame, recital, concert, and all other events that involved Brad and Erica. Dora loved her family, other than her Lord and Savior, more than anything in the world. She spent as much time as she could with them.

Along with her parents and husband, Dora was preceded in death by her grandson, Brad Ray, several brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Miller (John); a granddaughter, Erica Mejia (Alex); two great-granddaughters, Sophia Ray and Emma Mejia; one sister, Cleo Asher; one brother, Dewey Lee Middleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Dora’s family would like to thank some very special friends who helped take care of Dora her last few years: Pam and Alex, who stayed with Dora several months prior to her moving to Newnan, Margaret Partridge, Dora’s daily caregiver for the past two years, Ann Cowan, and all the sweet ladies at Corinth Road Personal Care Home in Newnan, Georgia, Renee and Joan, two very special hospice nurses who loved Dora so very much, and Kenneth Brown, the hospice chaplain who faithfully visited Dora weekly, and many others who, along Dora’s journey, loved her, took wonderful care of her, and brightened her days.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the LaFayette Cemetery. Hospice Chaplain, Kenneth Brown, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation or adopt a pet from your local animal shelter in memory of Dora. She loved animals and would love to know that animals received a loving home in her memory.
