Elbert Duane O’Kelley, age 75, of Rock Spring, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Charles Thomas O’Kelley and Mable Elaine Ballew O’Kelley, Elbert was a lifelong resident of North Georgia and a devoted member of the Baptist faith.
A proud graduate of Rossville High School’s Class of 1969, Elbert went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His valor was recognized with both the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
Elbert dedicated over two decades to law enforcement, retiring in 1997 after 23 years of committed service with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. He was a steadfast presence for his loved ones, always available and deeply devoted to his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Doyle O’Kelley, Mary Lee Honeycutt, Paul O’Kelley, Jerry O’Kelley, and Tommy O’Kelley.
Elbert is survived by his cherished siblings, Barbara Powers, Bill O’Kelley, Robert O’Kelley, and Eugene “Bean” O’Kelley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory forward with love and pride.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 6, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again prior to the service on Thursday.
