Eleanor Mae Hatfield Newberry passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024 just five days before her 94th birthday. Ms. Newberry was a saved Christian and is now in Heaven with loved ones. She was born on May 21, 1930 in Chattanooga, TN and graduated from Central High School in 1948. She was very athletic in her younger years and was a fast pitch softball pitcher, winning state tournament for two years, and also won several state horseshoe tournaments. For many years she as an avid fishing lady. She has always had a great sense of humor and lived life to its fullest. She even earned the nickname of “Spunky Lady.” She was a kind and compassionate person who has helped many people during her long lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Mae Kirkpatrick and her only sister Virginia White, first husband of 30 years, Bobby Hatfield, Sr. and second husband, Jim Newberry, also her oldest son, Spencer Hatfield and daughter Linda Dalton.
She is survived by her sons, Mike (Martha) Hatfield, Bobby (Beverly Hatfield), Jr., daughter-in-law Kay Hatfield, grandsons, Sonny Hatfield and Scott Smith, granddaughters Rebecca (Matt) Henderson and Laura (Zach) Cohen, great granddaughters Skyler Lewis, Ashlyn Dotts, Paisley Cohen and Bailynn Henderson, great grandsons, Tyler Hatfield, Peyton Hatfield, and Zachary Lawson. Visitation will be at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. with services following at 3 p.m. in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be held at Forrest Hills Cemetery at a later date.
