Elizabeth Virginia “Ginny” Mason
July 7, 1943 - August 10, 2023

Elizabeth Virginia Mason, 80, passed away peacefully at NHC Healthcare, Rossville, GA, on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Ginny was born July 7, 1943, in Chickamauga, Georgia, to the late Fred Mason and Elizabeth Virginia Hall Mason.
Ginny was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School. She attended Wesleyan College and Covenant College, where in 1994 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management. She had a varied career that included working in Huntsville, Germany, and Atlanta, and for her father’s company M & H Oil, Blue Bird, the City of Chickamauga, Edwards Insurance, and Walker County government, to name a few. She traveled extensively in the United States and overseas, experiences for which she was very grateful. She also traversed most of Georgia as leader of her clogging group’s shows and productions.
Ginny was a devoted, lifelong Methodist and a member at Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church where her grandfather, the Rev. Clarence Andrew “C.A.” Hall was pastor circa 1913-14. She was a member of the Nan Cagle Circle of the United Methodist Women, led the Membership Care ministry, and served on many committees at the church. In the community, she continued to serve others through her involvement for over twenty years in the Chickamauga Woman’s Club in which she held many offices. Ginny also supported the Friends of the Gordon Lee Mansion, Friends of the Chickamauga Library, and at one point was on the board of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce.
Ginny loved University of Georgia football – Go, Dawgs! She was also a fan of professional golf, home renovation TV shows, and recently, making diamond art pictures. She was enthusiastic about decorating her home for Easter and especially for Christmas with her collection of more than 250 snowmen!
Ginny was looked up to by all who knew her. Her faith, endurance, common sense, integrity, and loyalty are some of the qualities that were admired. Ginny treasured the loving relationship she had with her son, Craig Thomas Byrd, and daughter-in-law Donna, of Clarksville, TN. They added much joy to her life. She will also be greatly missed by all her cousins: MAJ(R) Joseph B. Mason, Jr. “Joby” (Becca) of Ringgold, GA and Joseph B. Mason III; The Rev. Claire (John) Yoder, of Griffin, GA; Kathy Hale of Macon, GA; David Hearin (Linda) and Mary Hearin of Helotes, TX; Libby (Alex) Mata and Synia Mata of Helotes, TX; Phyllis Hearin of Cummings, GA; Bobby Knox (Dot) and aunt Ruthie Knox of Thomson, GA; JoAnn Shaw of Wilmington, NC: Kim Mason Beyard (Rick) of Jacksonville, FL; Kris Mason Corson (John) of The Villages, FL; and good friend Judy Webb, of Hoover, AL.
