Frances Hartis
March 12, 1939 ~ July 26, 2023

Frances Virginia Weathers Hartis left us on the beautiful morning of July 25th, 2023 with an inestimable grace for which she was known. She “slipped the surly bonds of Earth, put out her hand and touched the face of God.” Born on March 12,1939 in Albany, Georgia, she attended Albany High School and Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where she made friends to whom she remained devoted, true to her nature, for her entire lifetime. She taught school for 35 years and retired from Cloud Springs Elementary to care for her husband and true love until his passing on January 28, 2012. During the post-retirement years she was employed at Talbots where she shared her endless flair and love of fashion until her health no longer permitted. She was a member of The Church of the Nativity beginning in its infancy and remained devoted without cease. Never one to lose track of someone she held dear, she loved and was loved by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Chandler Roger along with grandsons Felix Palmer, Andrew James Hall (Angela), and Adam Michael Hall (Amy). She was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, James Russell Hartis, her daughter Brierley Rosanne Hall, her grandson Alexander Bryant McNulty, sister Harriet Pryztula, and brother Harry Weathers. In lieu of sending flowers, please honor her memory by perpetually “loving thy neighbor as thyself.”

The service will be held at the Church of the Nativity on Cross Street in Ft. Oglethorpe at 2pm on Sunday, July 30th, followed by interment of the ashes in the memory garden at the church. Frances never gave up - not in the beginning, not along the way or even at the end. You can rest in peace now, Mimmy
