George “Bill” Wilson, Jr. age 77, resident of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 9,2025 at NHC Healthcare, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Mr. Wilson, son of the late George William Wilson, Sr. and Dora Lee Douglas Wilson, was born May 25,1948 in St. Elmo, Georgia. He attended Chattanooga Valley and later joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably for over six years. After leaving the military, he began and operated M&B Mechanic Shop. Later on, he started a career in painting and was a member of the Local Painters Union #226. He worked in the painting industry for over 25 years until he retired. Mr. Wilson enjoyed NASCAR and Tennessee Volunteer football. He took occasional trips to Lake Weiss and also traveled with family members to watch his brother play baseball. While at home, you would see him watching television game shows , listening to classic rock and country music, particularly Hank Williams and Hank Williams, Jr., and spending quality time with his beloved pets, Munchkin and Sweetie. The family remembers him as a man who spoke what he thought.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Carroll Wilson and a brother, Wayne Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by one brother, Eddie (Angie) Wilson; one sister, Margaret Staton; two nieces, Ann Clark and Amber (Salman) Manjee; three nephews, Toney Wilson, Adam Wilson, and Clay Wilson; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Adam Wilson, Clay Wilson, Salman Manjee, Doug McBryar, James Brannon, Mark Broyles, and Wade Simpson. The family will receive friends at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia prior to the service on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to your favorite charity.
