September 8, 1946 - August 11, 2025
George “Gene” Hartsell, age 78, resident of Rossville, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Mr. Hartsell, son of the late George Watson Hartsell and Eleanor Faith Virts Hartsell, was born September 8,1946 in Morgantown, West Virginia. After high school he attended college at Fairmont State University. He then joined the military, serving his country honorably in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military, he began working in the textile industry in South Carolina. Later, he went into manufacturing before moving to Chattanooga to start attending Tennessee Temple University. He then finished up his working career at TMobile.
Mr. Hartsell was faithful in church, both as a Sunday School teacher and serving in the bus ministry. He was a current member of Moriah Baptist Church. Mr. Hartsell was an “avid rail fan” and always enjoyed traveling with his family. While at home, many would see him spending time on his computer; watching classic western shows; and listening to Southern Gospel music. The family remembers him as a jokester to others-but demonstrated himself as a Godly husband and father, one who lived a life of faithfulness.
Mr. Hartsell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Hartsell; one daughter, Alisha (Tim) Doolittle; two sons, Joey (Leslie) Hartsell and Adam Hartsell; one brother, David (Karen) Hartsell; five grandchildren, Cassandra, Zachary (Cassie), Ethan ( Ana), Chloe, and Jaida; one great-grandson, August; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 12 noon with Pastor Randy Lynn officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 3-6 p.m. and also prior to the service on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 11 a.m. till 12 noon.
