Howard Clinton Long
November 8, 1937 - May 31, 2024

Howard Clinton Long, age 86, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 in a health care facility. His family extends a special thanks to two very special people who helped to care for Howard for the last three months. They are Candius McCutchins and Erika Casteel. Howard loved them both. Howard also wanted to remember his special friend, neighbor and on site RN who counseled and helped him, Karen Hall Dykes.

He was the son of Kenneth Ray Long and Georgia Ellen Porter Long and was born in Howard County, Indiana on November 8, 1937. He was a 1955 graduate of Northwestern High School.

He retired as a manager from Cabot Corporation, Kokomo, Indiana at the age of 48 after thirty years of service. His work ethic and reputation was such that he was recruited as Plant Manager for Bishop Tube Corporation of Frazier, Pennsylvania. After three years there, again he was recruited as a manager at CE Tubes, Chattanooga, Tennessee. He retired from there in 1999 when the plant closed. He later was employed by Lowes as Installed Sales Manager for eight years. In addition, he served on the Catoosa County Board of Elections for twelve years and as Chairman of that Board for two years.

He was a 32" Degree Mason and a Shriner. His Masonic Lodge was Lodge #244 in Galveston, Indiana. He was a member of Judson Baptist Church, Howard County, Indiana from youth until 1999 when became a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church.

He was also importantly an avid LSU football fan!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Gamblin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years and 10 months, Sue Lynn Hall Long of Ringgold, Georgia; two daughters, Kathryn Kay Long Shambaugh (John Miller) of Rossville, Indiana and Pamela Sue Long of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one son, Gregory Keith Long (Angela) of Kokomo, Indiana; four grandchildren, Adrienne Niverson, Megan Miller, Macen Long and Michael Taylor; four great grandchildren, Willow Anne Kinsey, Myla Sue Long and Liam and Everett Niverson, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ringgold First Baptist Church, 7611 Nashville Street, Ringgold, Georgia on Tuesday, June 4,2024 at12 p.m., with Pastor Eric Kennedy and friend, Lewis Taylor in charge of the service. Visitation will be one hour before the service. A second Celebration of Life will be held in the Kokomo, Indiana area at a future date and at a place to be determined.
