Jeremiah McWhorter, age 84, of Chickamauga, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born in Buchannan, GA, to the late Dewey McWhorter and Callie Mae Johnson McWhorter, and had made his home in the Chickamauga area for the past 50 years. Jeremiah was of the Baptist faith.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hancock, an Essex-class aircraft carrier. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 30 years to the telecommunications industry, retiring in 2008. Jeremiah was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend whose steadfast love and gentle spirit will be deeply missed. He was also a member of the Crawfish Springs F & AM Lodge #300.
Along with his parents, Jeremiah was preceded in death by his loving wife, Glenda Sherrill Merritt McWhorter; and siblings Gwenelle Braizer, Carolyn Cox, Faye Martin, and Euzelle McWhorter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ginger (Allen) Barcomb, Jeris McWhorter, and David Bowling; sister, Amileen “Bolly” Brooks; grandchildren, Savannah Barcomb and Noah Barcomb; great-grandchild, Samuel; special nephew and caregiver, William “Beaver” Merritt; sister-in-law, Judy Merritt Roddy and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for both Amileen Brooks and Jeremiah McWhorter are scheduled at the Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel, 443 Boynton Drive, Ringgold, Georgia on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Keith McLeod and Pastor Zach Fitzpatrick officiating. The families of Amileen and Jeremiah will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. and prior to the service on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel, Ringgold.
