John “Raymond” Hass, 78, of Chattanooga, peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on June 2, 2025, in the comfort of his home. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, Raymond was a devoted man of faith and service, known for his generous spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to others.
Raymond lived by the motto: “God first, others second, self last.” This simple yet powerful philosophy guided every aspect of his life. Whether rescuing animals, lending a helping hand to neighbors, or offering a kind word, he lived to serve. A lover of the outdoors, he found joy in camping, exploring nature, and watching classic westerns that reminded him of simpler times.
He dedicated over 40 years of honorable service to the Chattanooga Police Department, where he became known as a true jack-of-all-trades—a dependable and resourceful colleague who could be counted on in any situation.
Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Goins Hass; his parents, Jonas and Oneda Hass; his siblings Paulette Nichols, Gene (Linda) Hass, Charles Hass, and Jerry Hass; his brother-in-law William “Kenneth” Cooley; and his great-granddaughter, Korena Hass.
He is survived by his children, John “John Boy” R. (Jennifer) Hass Jr., Angela Josette Hill, and Carla Hass; his siblings Linda (Franklin) York and Rhonda (Robert) Smith; and his brother-in-law Gary Nichols and sister-in-law Carolyn Hass, Judy Hass. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Larissa, Ricky “Buddy”, Clarence (Dashawn), and Devanee; great-grandson Patrick; his side-kick Hershey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Ft. Oglethorpe, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel.
