John Silvey, age 90, resident of Walker County, passed away on June 11, 2025.
Mr. Silvey, son of the late John Bunyon Silvey and Maggie Ann Williams Silvey, was born October 28, 1934 in Catoosa County, Georgia. He was a member of West Park Baptist Church. After high school, Mr. Silvey enlisted in the military and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military, he worked at General Motors in Michigan. Moving back to the local area, he then worked at Candlewick Yarn. Later on he began a career in law enforcement, working as a Deputy for the Catoosa County Sheriff’s office and Walker County Sheriff’s office. He then began work as a Deputy for the Chickamauga Police Department and then transferred to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department; and served as bailiff for Catoosa County courts until he retired.
Mr. Silvey enjoyed going to the casinos; fishing; and golfing. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. While at home, he would be seen watching classic western movies. The family remembers him as a hard- working honest man – one who would always help others.
Mr. Silvey is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Nancy Silvey; two daughters, Debbie Johnson and Belinda (Tony) Dixon; two sons, Heath (Angel) Silvey and Dakota (Betsy) Silvey; three sisters, Emma Jo Davis, Dodie (A.L.) James, and Glenda White; one brother, Noel (Janice) Silvey; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.
