Judith Anne Snyder
August 11, 2023

Judith Anne Snyder, 82, of Culdesac Idaho passed away after a long and courageous battle with heart disease at her daughter's home in Lafayette, Georgia surrounded by her family. Judy was born the daughter of Manley Joe Gaede on June 3rd, 1941, in Paynesville Minnesota and was adopted and raised by her grandmother Dorothy Marie Redshaw, fondly referred to as “Mama.” Judy was raised in Clarkston, Washington and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1959.

On November 24th, 1959, Judy married the love of her life Gordon Snyder in Lewiston Idaho. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Judy and Gordon moved to Weippe Idaho in 1967 where they made their home and raised their children. In 2019 the couple made the move to Culdesac Idaho to be closer to family. While living in Weippe, Judy’s focus was always on her children; however, she always enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and quilting. She also loved to read and was an accomplished writer. Judy shared her interests by being a 4-H leader for many years. She always had a way of finding different avenues to share her knowledge and passions with the younger generations. One of the ways was being a substitute teacher at the local high school, which she took great pride in. Judy worked as a columnist and reporter at the Clearwater Tribune and wrote many short stories that were featured in various publications. She also worked on a novel that she dreamt of someday being published. Judy worked as a CNA for over 40 years. With a serving heart, she had the ability to care for others, especially the elderly.

Judy loved camping, hunting and fishing with her family on the North Fork of the Clearwater River. You could always find her in her favorite chair by the campfire with a good book. She shared her love of reading with her children with hopes of her passion being continued for generations. She also instilled in her children to give when they didn’t have much, laugh through the bad times, work hard for what they want because nothing in life is free and to love with their whole hearts and always be kind.

Judy was preceded in death by her mama Dorothy Redshaw, Father Manley Gaede, husband Gordon Snyder, grandson Dustin Snyder, great-grandson Bentley Atkinson, and many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son Russell (Karen) Snyder, daughters Marie (Rob) Thomas, Becky (Tom) Atkinson, Susan (Roger) Mahler. Grandchildren Misty Steiner, Chris (Jen) Thomas, Deanna (Dustin) Treib, T.J. (Allison) Atkinson, Shayla (Mark) Roberts. Great-grandchildren Brayden (Alethia) Steiner, Alex Steiner, Jade, Ethan, Evan Thomas, Stryder, Aiden, Caleb Lombard. Braxton Atkinson, Amari Roberts, Canyon, Ridge, Brooks and Reed Atkinson. Neice Denise Castro, Sisters Karen, Vicki, Pat and Tina, brothers Gayle, Joe and Lee.

Per Judy’s wishes there will be no services held, however if you would like to honor her memory, please take the time to sit down with a child and read to them. Teach them to love and appreciate all the treasures contained in books that Judy loved so much.

Now that I have left the one’s I love

To go along the silent way.

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears.

But laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you there.
