Karen Sue Box Porter age 76, of Chickamauga, Georgia went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday - August 23, 2023. She was born in Washington, D.C. to Vernon and Elizabeth Rebecca Truitt Box and had been a resident of the northwest Georgia area for the past twenty-four years. She was a graduate of Messick High School in Memphis, Tennessee – Class of 1964, where she graduated third in her class of over five hundred. She graduated from Memphis State University where she earned her Master’s Degree, was on the Dean’s List and President of the Wesley Foundation. She was a member of Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church in Chickamauga for the past twenty years. As a member she served on various committees, was the former President on the United Methodist Women and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She was a career educator, she taught math, science and was a guidance counselor for several schools. She was a former guidance counselor for Chickamauga City Schools for nineteen years. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son: Wesley Alva Porter and her brother: Alan Vernon Box. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years: Alva L. “Pete” Porter III, son: Matthew David Porter, granddaughters: Hayley Chase, Mia Caren Porter, sister: Rebecca Box Malchon, several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Karen’s live will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday – August 31, 2023 at Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church with Pastor Zach Fitzpatrick officiating.
