November 6, 1924 - January 30, 2026
Kathleen Susie Brown, age 101, of Chickamauga Ga passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and love. She was a devoted Christian and member of Oakwood Baptist Church whose life reflected quiet strength, kindness, and service to others. Known lovingly by many as “Nana,” she will be especially remembered for her famous sourdough bread, affectionately called Nana bread, which she shared generously with family, friends, and neighbors.
She found great joy in spending time with her family and took pride in simple pleasures such as gardening and sewing. Her hands were rarely still, and her home was always filled with warmth and faith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Clifton Brown; her daughter, Sandra Johnson; her parents, Abner and Ola Koger York; and eight siblings.
She is survived by her brother, Rev. Bill York; her daughters, Barbara Dawkins and Debbie Cruise; her grandchildren, Kristi (Dan) Durkin, Alan (Lisa) Gayton, Ashleigh (Ben) Pipes, Jeremy (Amber) Cruise, and Jason Cruise; and her great-grandchildren, Ansley Gayton, Justin Cruise, Emily Gayton, Kaylee Cruise, Brody Cruise, Katherine Pipes, Sydney Cruise, Benjamin Pipes, Jacob Cruise, and Elory Durkin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tapestry Hospice, with special thanks to Angel and Cassie, for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
Her faith, love, and enduring example will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Billy York officiating. Interment will follow in the Chickamauga City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home-J. Avery Bryan Chapel.
