Lavonn Lewis Mayes, 77, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2025. He was born to the late Fred and Jamie Mayes in LaFayette, Georgia. Lavonn was a lifelong resident of the Northwest Georgia area, and he was a member of Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle in Ringgold, Georgia. Lavonn was known as a car fanatic! He loved restoring and painting cars and motorcycles. He was highly talented in painting and restoring automobiles, having worked in this field for many years. Many of the highly successful paint and body professionals in this area were taught the trade and were mentored by Lavonn. He always enjoyed attending car shows and searching for a good deal at flea markets. Lavonn dearly loved his wife of fifty-two years and his family. Lavonn was greatly loved by his family, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Lavonn is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jamie Mayes; daughter, April Denise Mayes; son, Mark Lewis Mayes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Bernice Brooks; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Metcalf, Julia Wilson, and Pat Brooks.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-two years, Stella Louise Mayes; sons, Nathan (Latasha Watson) Mayes, and Larry (Jessica) Mayes; brother, William Lee (Shellia) Mayes; sister, Eloise Mayes; grandchildren, Rylee Mayes, Breeanna Ellis, Garrett Watson all of Ringgold, Georgia; sister-in-law, Shirley (Roy) Browning, Donnette (Rick) Armstrong, Joan Rainey, Shellia (Lee) Mayes; brother-in-law, Larry Brooks, and Thomas Wilson; several nieces and nephews, and special friend and neighbor, Hazel Cobb.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Traditions Hospice, especially hospice nurse Chanel.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Wallis–Stewart Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes, with Pastor Justin Gazaway officiating. Justin Armstrong, Todd Hegwood, Greg Metcalf, Garrett Watson, Jeffrey Wilson, Jason Mayes, Curtis Carroll, and Jeremy Overturf will serve as pallbearers. The Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family appreciates your prayers and support during this difficult time.
