Layton Lavern Mitchell, age 86, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025. Born on February 21, 1939, to the late Roscoe and Elsie Evans Mitchell, Lavern was a lifelong resident of the Lookout Mountain community—a place he loved and served faithfully throughout his life.
Lavern was a devoted member of Lookout Mountain Independent Baptist Church. A gifted Rock Mason by trade, he took pride in his craftsmanship and spent countless hours fixing and working on lawnmowers and cars. His basement workshop was his haven, where he poured his heart into projects both big and small. But above all, Lavern’s greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and those who knew him have no doubt that when he saw his Savior face to face, he heard the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat Mitchell, as well as several siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will remember his kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith.
In honoring Lavern’s wishes, services and burial will be held privately, and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Lavern’s legacy of love, workmanship, and devotion to Christ will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
