Ledonia “Ann” Van Winkle, age 82, resident of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Ridge Manor Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Van Winkle, daughter of the late Thelmon Rayburn and Tommie Marie Merritt Rayburn, was born November 10, 1943 in Malvern, Alabama. She was Baptist by faith and retired from the State of Florida where she faithfully worked as a Corrections Officer for over 29 years. Mrs. Van Winkle enjoyed gardening her flowers; taking trips with her family (particularly in the western states); and treating herself at ice cream shops. While at home, many would see her watching hummingbirds; cooking for family and friends; listening to both Southern gospel and Elvis music; and watching classic western movies, with her favorite being John Wayne movies. She also would spend time embroidering and crocheting many garment items. The family remembers her as a lady who loved her Lord and Savior and always looked to spending quality time with her family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert Wilson Van Winkle; two sisters, Elsie Morris and Bonnie Szathmary; and one brother, Kenny Rayburn.
Mrs. Van Winkle is survived by one daughter, Eva Marie (Matthew) Young; one son, Bruce (Rose) Van Winkle; one brother, David (Penny) Rayburn; four grandchildren, John Michael Collier (USN), Chase Collier (US Army), MacKenzie (Elijah) Crotte (USAF), and Timothy Van Winkle (USAF); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her cat, Miss Kitty.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 3 p.m. with Dr. Neal Brown officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 12 noon till 3 p.m.
