Linda Gail Alred Lingerfelt, age 79, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025. She was born in Alabama to the late Lemuel Isaac Alred and Elsie Privette Alred and later moved to the Chattanooga area. For the past fifty years, Rossville has been the place she called home. Linda was of the Christian faith. To those who loved her most, she was affectionately known as “Nanny.” She was also known for her fondness for Walmart—whether shopping for bargains, strolling the aisles for hours, or greeting customers as a cashier during her years of work there. Her favorite season was Christmas, when she could combine her love of shopping with her joy for giving. Linda also enjoyed crafting, caring for her beloved dogs, and creating home-cooked meals that her family will always remember with love. Above all, Linda cherished her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lingerfelt; father, Lemuel Isaac Alred; mother, Elsie Alred Thompson; stepfather, Esco Thompson; brother, Jackie Alred; sisters, Betty Gossett, Sandra Privette, Tinda McBryar, and great grandson, Cyler White.
She is survived by her children, Anita (Billy Tharp) Fields, Lynn (Chuck) Hamm, Rhonda Lingerfelt, and Richard “Peanut” Lingerfelt Jr.; sister, Mary Cooke; brother, Ronald Alred, as well as six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Eddie Frye officiating in the chapel of W. L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home.
