Major Edwin Bernard Zipp, Sr., 93 of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Mr. Zipp was born on June 20, 1929 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late William Charles Zipp and Laura Mildred Worley Zipp. He was retired as a Major from the U.S. Army after 23 years where he travelled extensively serving in Vietnam and Korea. After a honorable discharge he owned his own home remodeling business. He worked as sales manager at Newton Chevrolet. As a man of faith he volunteered with Teen Challenge, was a member of The Crossing Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, earned his Chaplain Certificate then facilitated Grief Share.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Inez Zipp; daughter, Phyllis Kay Gordon; son, Edwin B. Zipp, Jr.; daughter, Marsha Coots; brother, Charles Zipp and sister, Doris Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Crawford-Zipp; son, Rickey (Lydia) Zipp; daughter, Kelley L. Zipp; bonus children, Gayla (Brian) Turner and Kathy (Barry) Hicks; grandchildren, Richard Tirado, Robert Gordon, Erica Rodgers, Megan Zipp-Norris, Bethany Freer, Isaac Zipp, Seth Zipp and Julia Masengale; numerous great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the Front Door Project of the Crossing.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry L. Harris and Rev. Chad L. Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
