Melba Silvey
May 21, 1929 - June 14, 2024
Melba Silvey, age 95, resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Hospice Care Center, Chattanooga.
Mrs. Silvey, daughter of the late Albert Spencer Fisher and Mary Alise Davis Fisher, was born May 21, 1929 in Dalton, Georgia. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Ringgold, Georgia and former owner/operator of Silvey’s Beauty Salon. After operating her salon for several years, she went back to college and received an Associate’s Degree with a Teaching Certificate. Mrs. Silvey then began another career where she taught at both Kirkman High School and Tyner High School. She then went on to teach at Chattanooga State College.
Mrs. Silvey enjoyed taking trips to the mountains and the trip she took to England. She also enjoyed spending time at home, cooking for family and canning food. Many times, family and friends would see her watching the Gaither Vocal Band or Dr. David Jeremiah on television. Most of all, she looked forward to spending quality time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Silvey and a son, John Silvey.
Mrs. Silvey is survived by two daughters, Glenda Elliott White and Dodie (A.L.) James; three step-children, Emma Jo Davis, John (Nancy) Silvey, and Noel (Janice) Silvey; four grandchildren, Shelly (James) Perry, Kris Coulter, Kelly Elliott, and Chad Elliott; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled at the Wallis-Stewart Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home, 443 Boynton Drive, Ringgold, Georgia on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 2 p.m. with Reverend Eric Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 12 noon till 2 p.m.
