Melvin Chesley Cummings
March 24, 1940 - February 16, 2025

Melvin Chesley Cummings, 84, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was born in Ringgold, Georgia, to the late William Chesley and Mary Anne Cummings. Melvin had lived in the South East Tennessee and Northwest Georgia area his entire life, and he was a member at New Friendship Baptist Church in Ringgold, Georgia. Melvin was an avid farmer and loved growing various plants and fruit trees. He could always be found outdoors wearing his overalls and his pocket watch. He enjoyed collecting and trading knives and flashlights and spending time with his much-loved animals. Melvin loved The Lord with all his heart and it was evident in the way he lived his life. Melvin deeply loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Melvin was a wonderful Christian man; his family's love for him was deep and unwavering, and he will be missed.

Melvin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mattie Louise Cummings; parents, William Chesley Cummings and Mary Anne Sullivan; son, Melvin “Lyle” Cummings; grandchildren, Bradley Paul Rogers, and Michelle Leanne Rogers; brother, Steve Ray; and son-in-law, Danny Dale Majors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Doris Hester; children, Melody Louise Majors of Flat Top Mountain, Tennessee, Jeffery Dean (Rose) Cummings of Chester, Virginia, Jennifer Annette Rogers of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, and Amanda Lauren (Jarrod) Winkler of Flat Top Mountain, Tennessee; siblings, Roger Cummings of Athens, Tennessee, Wayman Sullivan of Ringgold, Georgia, Kaye Gassette of Ringgold, Georgia, and Cathy Hilling of South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Cindy Cummings; grandchildren, Angela (Jason) VanAllman, David (Sandra) Edwards, Franklyn Cummings, Savanah Cummings, and Alvin Kelly; great-grandchildren, Cheslee VanAllman and Brylee VanAllman, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service, a time to celebrate Melvin’s life, will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Shelton officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time. The family appreciates your prayers and support during this difficult time.
