Mickey Smith

It is with sadness that the family of Bill (Mickey) Smith share his passing on May 11, 2023 at the age of 72. He was a devoted father, a loving husband and adoring grandfather.

Mickey was a graduate of Lafayette High school and Berry College. He spent his career in the carpet and transportation industries. He will be most remembered for his 40 years of coaching girls’ competitive softball. His passion was not only developing athletics skills but also focused on charter development both on and off the field. He was most known for founding the California Cruisers and Chattanooga Cruisers softball travel teams. His love, passion and dedication for girls’ softball created opportunities and success for generations of young women.

He was also a well-known musician and a member of several local bands including The Inmates, Boys at Heart and the Bellairs 60’s show band.

Mickey was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Caylor Smith. He is survived by his children, Ben Smith, Rebecca Schrader, Laura Grace, as well as his sister Stephanie. Also, survived by his eight grandchildren Chandler, Brent, Alyssa, Cameron, Hayden, Jenna, Riley and Ava.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home with a celebration of life in the funeral home chapel at 4 p.m.

Interment will follow at the LaFayette Memory Gardens.
