Eddie “Don” Donald Towns, Sr., age 82, of Chickamauga, Georgia passed away Sunday – February 23, 2025. Don was born in Childress, Texas to the late Bill Alvin and Doris Culver Towns. Don spent his childhood and early adolescences in Texas where he won multiple trophies and ribbons riding horses in horse shows, most of the time on his beloved horse “Dynamite.” He also loved playing baseball and had a tryout with the Washington Senators Professional Baseball Team as a pitcher. Don was a well known and well respected court reporter for the past 62 years. He started his career as a Federal Official in Chattanooga in 1961, where he worked on the famous Jimmy Hoffa Racketeering and jury tampering Trial and the Dizzy Dean Trial. He became an Official Superior Court Reporter for the Lookout Judicial Circuit Court in 1971, and was currently still working up to his passing. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, tennis, golf and going camping. Don enjoyed traveling the states with his beloved wife and especially going out west. He was a member of Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church in Chickamauga, Georgia. Don’s favorite thing was spending time with his family and friends. He was a hard worker, selfless, devoted and loving husband, father, granddaddy, gaddy, uncle “D” and friend.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years: Patricia Stroup Towns of Chickamauga, GA, Eddie D. (Kim) Towns, Jr., of Chickamauga, GA, Anthony “Tony” Roger (Christie) Towns of Lookout Mountain, GA, grandchildren: Courtney Lauren Towns, Andrew Eddie (Addison) Towns, Agnes Ruth Towns, Anthony Spencer Towns, Evelyn Morin Towns, great-grandson: Whitman James Eddie Towns, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Bob and Jane Stroup Steele, nieces: Sarah Steele, Jessica Steele (Rob) Mock, Clare Steele (Trace) Walker, Adeline Steele, nephews: Barry Stroup, Waylon Mock, Jackson Walker, Steele Walker, last but certainly not least his beloved dogs: Ben and Gunner.
The family will receive friends Saturday – March 1, 2025 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church, with a celebration of Don’s life service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704 - Hagerstown, MD 21741 or www.cancer.org.
