Reverend James “Jim” Arthur Chasteen age 84, of Rock Spring, Georgia went home to be with The Lord Thursday, February 6, 2025. He was born in Berryton, Georgia, to the late William Arthur and Annie Ruth Helton Chasteen. Jim accepted the call to preach in 1968 and served The Lord faithfully in pastoring for over fifty-six years. He served as pastor for the following Churches of God: Blackville, Nashville, East Savannah, Odum, Parkway, Cloud Springs, Trion and Noble all in Georgia, Falling Water and Madisonville both in Tennessee. Jim’s passion was serving The Lord through preaching, singing, playing the piano and study God’s Word faithfully. Jim also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, Georgia and Alabama football games. He was a Terry Bradshaw fan when he played for the Pittsburg Steelers and a Patrick Mahomes fan with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a fanatic about his landscaping and yard work being done to his perfection. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years: Virginia Ann Waters Chasteen of Rock Spring, GA, their children: Angie (Greg) Burgess of Ringgold, GA, Perry Chasteen of Rock Spring, GA, Beth Harold of Ringgold, GA, Kelly Chasteen of Rock Spring, GA, sister: Mary Naomi (Charles) Lowery of Ringgold, GA, grandchildren: Logann (Patrick) Porter, Jordan (Olivia) Burgess, Eli Burgess, Landon Harold, Luke Harold, great-grandchildren: Paxtyn and Connor Porter, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Sunday an hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm – Sunday – February 9, 2025 in the chapel with Mike Lee, John Ramsey and Wayne Lowery officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Gardens and Mausoleum in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Jordan Burgess, Eli Burgess, Landon Harold, Luke Harold, Patrick Porter and Collin Lowery will serve as pallbearers. In honor of Jim’s dear friends, the family will like to honorably mention: Carroll Allen, Kris Taivalkoski, David Hammontree, Don Fowler, Willie Jones and Fred Dowdy.
