Mr. LeRoy MatthewsChickamauga

LeRoy “Pops” Matthews age 83, of Chickamauga, Georgia went home to be with The Lord Wednesday – March 26, 2025. He was born in East Ridge, Tennessee to the late William Doyle and Gusta Tallant Matthews. He was a graduate of Gordon Lee Memorial High School – Class of 1961. Pops was of the Baptist faith and had been a longtime member of the Chickamauga Lions Club. He worked for many years with Southern Railroad and was a former owner/operator of his own trucking company. Pops could do just about anything; he had worked as a plumber and electrician for Grady Mundy. He had also been a farmer and a carpenter and enjoyed helping others any chance he could. He was a longtime breakfast customer of Wanda’s Restaurant in Rock Spring, Georgia. One of his greatest joys in his life was being called Pops and being Pops to his boys. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Mildred Eulene Plaster Matthews, son: Rodney Matthews, grandson: Christopher Reagan Matthews and brothers: Troy and Lloyd Matthews. He is survived by his daughter: Kathy (Edwin) Walker of Chickamauga, GA, sisters: Helen Goldman of Jackson, MS, Lynda Burns of Chickamauga, GA, daughter-in-love: Kim (Barry) Spector of Calhoun, GA, grandsons: Dylan Walker, Sam (Demi) Walker all of Chickamauga, GA, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Sunday after 11:00 am prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm – Sunday – March 30, 2025 in the chapel with Mark Askew and Willie Emert officiating. Burial will follow on the Matthews Family Farm - Chickamauga, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Reagan Matthews Scholarship Fund at 105 Lee Circle – Chickamauga, Georgia 30707.
