Mr. Wilburn Harold SmithRock Spring

Wilburn Harold Smith age 91, of Rock Spring, Georgia passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025. Harold was born on February 11, 1934 in Subligna, Georgia, to the late Sam and Ethel Smith. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army and was a proud Korean War Veteran. He then worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union during his years living in Portland, Oregon. While there, he also enjoyed fishing and camping. After returning to Georgia, he worked as a foreman for Pike Electrical Contractors until his retirement. In later years, he worked as a custodian at several area schools and churches, with his wife, Jo, by his side. He was an avid gardener and a ham radio enthusiast. For many years, his Rock Spring home was known for its dazzling Christmas lights display, with as many as 30,000 lights that he put up himself! He enjoyed all sorts of gadgets and learning new technology. His long and interesting life provided many great stories that he loved to share and that entertained all his friends and family. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter: Kathy Heffner, his siblings: Thomas Smith, Robert (Bo) Smith, Joseph Smith, John Smith, Larry Smith, Phillip Smith, and Mozell Long. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Jo Purcell Smith, his son Roger (Patty) Smith, and siblings Winston Smith, Ruth Willie (Otto), Odell Anderson (Ralph), Bonnie Lewis (Jack), as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Weather permitting a graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm – Thursday – April 10, 2025 at LaFayette Cemetery with Pastor Joe Brown officiating. If weather is bad, services will be in the chapel.
