Jean Marie Oliver Ellis age 86, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday morning, July 12, 2025. She was born in Kensington, Georgia to the late Floyd Hampton and Mary Elizabeth Rosser Oliver. Jean was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga, Georgia and graduated from Gordon Lee High School in 1956. After high school, she married Billy Neil Ellis on December 19, 1958 in the home of Frank and Bernice Loveless, Billy Neil’s aunt and uncle. Billy Neil and Jean were married just a few weeks shy of 60 years before his death. Together, they raised Gregory Neil Ellis and Sherri Neilia Ellis. Billy Neil and Jean never missed a fall Friday night of Gordon Lee Football, cheering from their perch in the top of the stands and supported all of the sports programs at Gordon Lee. Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband: Billy Neil Ellis, their son Gregory Neil Ellis, sister and brother-in-law: Joan (Billy) Jackson. She is survived by her daughter: Sherri Neilia Ellis of Chickamauga, GA, sister: Linda Cash, grandchildren: Kristen Drew Spires (Laura) Williams, Dwane Alexander (Austen) Spires, Shelby Frances (Joe Julian) Ellis, great-granddaughters: Poppy Elizabeth Williams and Scottie Ellis Spires. The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice for their wonderful care and support. A private graveside service was held on Monday – July 14, 2025 in Chickamauga Cemetery – Chickamauga, Georgia.
