Mrs. Jo Ann Purcell SmithRock Spring

Jo Ann Purcell Smith age 86, of Rock Spring, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025. Jo was born on May 23, 1939 in LaFayette, Georgia, to the late Romeo and Thelma Shaw Purcell. She worked with the Credit Bureau in Chattanooga, Tennessee for many years. Jo is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Harold Smith. Harold was the focus of Jo’s life and the two were seldom seen apart. She was his partner in work, as well as hobbies and projects around the house. For many years, their Rock Spring home was known for its dazzling Christmas lights display, with as many as 30,000 lights that they enjoyed putting up together. In their later years, they especially enjoyed grocery shopping and eating out. They enjoyed being members of Battlefield Parkway Church of the Nazarene for many years. Along with Harold and her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Eddie Stanfield, Lisa Horton and brothers: Dickie and Tommy Purcell. Jo is survived by her special nieces and nephews who loved and cared for her: Skip (Angie) Purcell, Kim Richardson, Shawna (Randy) Williams, Keith (Chasity) Purcell, Chuck (Becky) Purcell, and Lindsay (Dan) Rose, as well as several great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. A chapel service will follow at 2:00 pm – Thursday – July 31, 2025 in the chapel with Pastor Joe Brown officiating. Burial will follow in LaFayette Cemetery.
