Shirley Ann Young Templeton, age 87, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2025. A lifelong resident of North Georgia, Shirley was a devoted member of New Liberty Baptist Church since 1995. She sang in the church choir as long as her health allowed and remained a dedicated student of the Bible throughout her life—especially drawn to the book of Acts. Outside of her faith, Shirley found joy in caring for her family, cooking, and sewing. In her later years, she and her husband, Everett, shared a love of dancing. Her greatest joy, however, came from time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Robert E. Templeton Jr.; her daughter, Cynthia Diane Templeton; sons, Tim Templeton and Randy Templeton; her parents, Tom and Robbie Young; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Mark (Angie) Templeton and Robert (Rebekah) Templeton III; daughter-in-law, Linda Templeton; her husband, Everett Plante; sister, Betty Rose; sisters-in-law, Sandy Templeton and Joyce Templeton; grandchildren, Christy Sutton, Chris Templeton, Mandy Templeton, Alison Francis, Mitch Templeton, Nikki Templeton, Jordan Templeton, Hannah Templeton, Noah Bishop, and Ryan Templeton; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and her beloved dog, Buddy.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home and prior to the service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wallis – Stewart Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes in Ringgold, Georgia. Interment will follow in Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
