Velma Irene McGill Porter, age 102 of Rossville, went to be with her Lord on Saturday July 15, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and retired from Crystal Springs Bleachery after over 20 years of service. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where she was the church Matriarch and an active member of the Golden Agers. She loved her family and spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Rosa Vaughn; first husband Joseph McGill, second husband, William Porter; brothers, Lester Vaughn and David Lamar Vaughn; sister, Lucille Smith; and son, Marshall McGill.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kenneth McGill (Joie) of Lafayette, GA; brother, Ricky Vaughn of Jasper, GA; sisters, Marion Vaughn Smith of Rossville, GA, June Vaughn Ellis of Chickamauga, GA, and Shirlene Vaughn Bottke of Ooltewah, TN; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be 11am until 2:00pm Tuesday July 18, 2023 at Wilson Funeral Home Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Rev. Mike Sims officiating. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
