Vernon Oscar Carbine
August 14, 1938 - June 27, 2024

Vernon Oscar Carbine, 85 of East Ridge passed away on June 27, 2024. He has lived in the Chattanooga area for most of his life, but did live in the Chickamauga area with his wife where they ran Harvey’s Kitchen together. Vernon served his country in the Marines during Korea, and as a member of the Army during Vietnam. Vern was also a diehard UT Vols fan.

He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Kilgore Carbine; parents Ruby & Ray Claridy; step daughter Sanda Eldridge; sister Doris Claridy; brother Marion Carbine; and brother-in-law Raymond Richardson.

Vern is survived by his children Cary (Vicki) Carbine, Chris (Sonja) Carbine, Anita “Missy” (Jay) Stewart, Candace “Candy” (Patrick) Daugherty; step children Brenda (Steve) Hales, Donna Weaver; siblings Juanell Richardson, Lamar Carbine, Chris (Cathy) Carbine; also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday June 30, 2024 in the parlor of the funeral home; and before the service on Monday. The funeral service will be held on Monday July 1, 2024 in the Ft. Oglethorpe Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Nash officiating. A private graveside will be held at a later date at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Grandchildren Michael Newton, Robbie Petty, Christopher Carbine, Alston Carbine, Aiden Carbin, and great-grandchildren Noah Hawkins, and C.J. Haslam will serve as pallbearers.
