Wayne “Papps” Whitaker

Wayne “Papps” Whitaker, age 65, resident of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at his residence. Papps, son of the late Donald Whitaker and Charlice Pigg Whitaker, was born December 23, 1959 in Springfield, Ohio. He was Church of Christ by faith and was retired from truck driving where he drove for over 45 years. Papps loved mechanic work and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed taking trips to the rivers and lakes, and occasionally camping. He was a patriotic man, and when at home he would watch military and action movies and listening to classic rock. The family remembers him as a giving, loving man who always wanted to help others.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Mixon; and a brother, Brian Whitaker. Papps is survived by two daughters, Star (Oliver) Morgan and Dawn (Mike) Golash; two sons, Johnny Mixon and Shawn (Tiffany) Whitaker; one sister, Karen (Steve) Marcinkoi; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at W.L Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 1-3 p.m.
