Romel Habba

Romel Habba, age 71, resident of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 at his residence.
Romel, son of the late Fethalla Habba and Hayatt Mackay Habba, was born October 5, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, serving his country honorably both overseas tours and stateside assignments. After serving in the military for over seven years, he began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, faithfully working in both Southfield, Michigan and El Cajon, California until he retired. He received a distinguished award for helping a police officer who was being attacked in San Diego, California. He moved to LaFayette, Georgia in 2016. Romel enjoyed working in his yard, riding his motorcycle, and fishing. While at home, many would find him spending time with his parrot and dog; playing oldies music; watching classic western movies; and cooking/grilling for family and friends. He also loved muscle cars and horses. Most of all, he looked forward to going to restaurants, giving bibles to others, and sharing the gospel of Jesus. The family remembers him as a man who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kemal Habba; and a sister, Rosemary Habba.
Romel is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Helen Habba; one daughter, Carolyn Habba; one son, David (Sarah) Habba; four sisters, Mary Garmo, Angel (Rolin) Carlin, Margaret Habba, and Anwaar (Moaid) Mio; one brother, James (Judy) Habba; three grandchildren, Malachi Habba, Makala Habba, and Makena Habba; many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee on Friday, April 10, 2026, 11 a.m. with Pastor Kenny Green officiating. The family will receive friends at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Clouds Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
