William O. (Bill) McCurdy, was born March 2nd, 1932, and died on April 19th, 2026.
Bill was a Korean war veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from the United States Postal Service with 45 years of service, where he had the nickname “Nugget”. He was an active member of Simpson United Methodist Church, serving as head usher and on several committees.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, The Rev. J.R. and Carrie Hale McCurdy; two brothers, Dr. Robert McCurdy and Mr. Ralph McCurdy; five sisters, Mrs. Kathryn (Clifford) Tyson, Mrs. Elizabeth (Burl) Chapman, Mrs. Annelle (Otis) Ledbetter, Mrs. Martha (Charles) Henry, and Mrs. Carolyn (Chuck) Vanderbur. Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nelda (Pickell) McCurdy, son Dale (Beth) McCurdy, granddaughter Gray Anna (Wade) Kephart, and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Wallis Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette, GA from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral to follow at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 23rd at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Rossville United Methodist Church, 601 McFarland Ave, Rossville GA 30741.
Pallbearers are Randy Baker, Lenny Hawkins, Mitchell Hollis, Bud Chapman, Bob Chapman, David Dunaway, J.T. Vann, and Benny Sizemore.
