As warmer weather settles in, families across Georgia are encouraged to take advantage of the season by heading outdoors and enjoying one of the state’s many Family and Kids Fishing Events.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division (WRD), these events are designed to introduce children and their families to the basics of fishing in a fun, supportive environment.

“Fishing with your child is such a great opportunity to connect with them and will create incredible memories for both of you to last a lifetime,” said WRD Chief of Fisheries Scott Robinson. “If you aren’t sure how to get started, Family and Kids fishing events offer a great place to begin.”

Held primarily during the spring and summer months, the events take place on both public and private waterways throughout the state. Organizers often select locations known for high catch rates, helping ensure young anglers have a successful and enjoyable first experience.

Many events include on-site volunteers who provide hands-on assistance for beginners, along with added features such as snacks, prizes, and educational resources about fishing and conservation.

The events are made possible through partnerships with local governments, municipalities, and conservation organizations. WRD also plays a key role by supplying fish such as catfish and trout, along with educational materials and planning support.

Families interested in participating can find a list of upcoming events, along with tips for fishing with children and recommended locations, by visiting the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division website at GeorgiaWildlife.com/KidsFishing or searching for nearby opportunities through GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com.

With opportunities available across the state, officials say there’s no better time for families to cast a line and make lasting memories outdoors.
