Records Show Former Dade Assistant Principal Also Worked in Catoosa County, Chickamauga City Schools

We are learning more about the employment history of a former Dade County assistant principal who is now jailed on a charge involving alleged inappropriate electronic communications with minors.

William “Billy” Broom previously worked for both Catoosa County Schools and Chickamauga City Schools in Walker County before beginning his career with Dade County Schools, according to employment records obtained through an open records request from Local 3 News WRCB

Broom was recently arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means following allegations involving inappropriate conversations with minors on Snapchat.

The charge is an accusation, and Broom is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

An approximately 80-page personnel file from Dade County Schools provides additional information about Broom’s education and employment history.

Records show Broom joined Dade County Schools in 2008, initially working as a teacher before eventually becoming an assistant principal at Dade County Elementary School.

His resume contained in the personnel file shows that before coming to Dade County, Broom worked for Catoosa County Schools and Chickamauga City Schools.

Before entering education, Broom served in the U.S. Army as a medic and was deployed to Panama and Iraq, according to his resume.

Employment applications contained in the Dade County personnel file also show Broom answered “No” when asked whether he had been the subject of any criminal investigations.

Broom resigned from Dade County Schools approximately six years before his recent arrest. In his resignation letter, he cited “family issues” and said his resignation was effective immediately.

It remains unclear where Broom worked following his departure from Dade County Schools and before his arrest.

Broom is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, October 28.
