The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Deputy Anthony Gilleland following news of his passing.
In a statement released by the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Steve Wilson and members of the department expressed their condolences to Gilleland’s family, friends, and fellow deputies during what officials described as a heartbreaking time for the law enforcement community.
The department referred to Gilleland as a “brother in blue” and asked the public to keep everyone who knew and loved him in their thoughts and prayers.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of one of our own,” the statement said.
No additional details surrounding Deputy Gilleland’s death were immediately released by authorities.
