Motorists traveling through downtown LaFayette this weekend are being advised to plan ahead for several road closures and traffic changes connected to the annual Honeybee Festival.

According to the LaFayette Police Department, multiple streets in the downtown area will be closed Friday and Saturday nights to accommodate festival activities and help ensure public safety during the event.

Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, all of North Main Street and several side streets between the Food City parking lot and West Main Street will be closed to traffic. Those closures will remain in place until 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 31.

Police say drivers can use Cherokee Street and Duke Street as alternate routes around the closure area during that time.

Additional road closures are planned for Saturday night. Starting at 4:00 p.m., Cherokee Street will be closed from the Food City parking lot entrance to Simmons Street until midnight. Culberson Street will also be closed from Cherokee Street to Oak Street during the same timeframe.

The LaFayette Police Department is encouraging residents and visitors to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes throughout the weekend festivities.

Officials thanked the public for their cooperation and said they look forward to welcoming the community to this year’s Honeybee Festival.
