Martha Jewell Henry

Martha “Jewell” Henry age 90, of Ringgold, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Jewell was born in Ringgold, Georgia to the late Reverand Francis A. Nelms and Mary Cox Nelms on August 25, 1935. A lifelong resident of Ringgold, she was a long-time member of New Liberty Baptist Church and an active member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Jewell worked for RCA Radio Appliance for many years before she began working at Provident Insurance. After many years working at Provident Insurance, Jewell retired.
Jewell was an avid gardener and loved to work in the yard. She had an amazing green thumb as she enjoyed gardening. If the weather did not allow her to work in the yard, she loved working puzzles, as well as bird watching while drinking a cup of coffee on her porch. Some of her most cherished time was spent reading her Bible and traveling to the beach for family vacations.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Maurice Henry and her siblings, Sara (Frank) Hancock, Sara’s first husband, Charles Thacker, Doris (Martin) Pitts, David Nelms, Earl Nelms, and Gene Nelms; nephews, Marty Pitts, Ricky Pitts, Joshua Jones, and Michael Nelms; sister-in-law, Loretta Nelms.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Mark Henry and Wenda Murphy, Steven M. Henry and Kristain Henry; her brother, Ray Nelms; her grandchildren, Graceson, Brittany, Zoey “Zooie”, Ennslee Jewell “Rue”, and Ash, as well as two great grandchildren, Trey and Kamdin; sister-in-laws, Linda Nelms and Debbie Bagwell.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the Wallis – Stewart Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes with Pastor Danny Henson officiating. Interment will follow at Daily Hills Cemetery. The family welcomes floral arrangements as Jewell would love nothing more than a room full of flowers and plants.
