Road improvements are underway as LaFayette begins work on its 2026 paving project.

Crews have started milling selected roadways, a process that removes the existing pavement surface before new asphalt is installed. Anthony Street and Foster Boulevard have already been milled and are ready for paving, while work on South Duke Street was started yesterday.

City officials say the remaining roads included in this year’s paving plan will be addressed throughout the week, with paving expected to begin early next week.

The 2026 paving project includes improvements on Anthony Street from Johnson Street to the dead end; Pledger Street from South Chattanooga Street to the dead end; Johnson Street from Foster Mill Drive to the dead end; Trail Lake from North Main Street to the dead end; Duke Street from South Main Street to Villanow Street; and Foster Boulevard from Highway 27 Bypass to Patterson Street.

Officials also announced that East Villanow Street, from Main Street to Highway 27, will be included in this year’s paving efforts. Although the Georgia Department of Transportation has plans to resurface that section in the future, the project is still several years away.

In response to concerns about current road conditions, and with GDOT approval to proceed, the City is using TSPLOST funds to make improvements to the roadway now.

Officials noted that the larger Villanow Street Revitalization Project, funded through a U.S. Department of Transportation RAISE grant, remains a separate project currently under development.
