Residents and visitors are invited to join Mayor Andy Arnold, the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, and city officials as they unveil one of LaFayette’s most ambitious recreational investments to date.

Located at 406 W. Villanow Street, Traverse Park is a multi-use greenway park designed to connect people, neighborhoods, and experiences across the city. The park features a 9-hole, beginner-friendly disc golf course, a rock climbing area, an all-wheels skate park, an inclusive playground designed for visitors of all abilities, and lighted walking paths that serve as a key connector and anchor for the city-wide LaFayette Trail System, linking surrounding neighborhoods to downtown destinations.

12:00 p.m.Community celebration featuring guided rock climbing, walking tours of the park and trail system, and food while supplies last.

The event will kick off at the park’s north parking lot, located at 33 1st Street, near the all-wheels park.

Traverse Park was made possible through a $2.2 million Improving Neighborhood Outcomes federal grant, with the required local match provided through the city’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds. City officials have highlighted the project as a centerpiece of LaFayette’s efforts to expand connectivity and recreational opportunities throughout the community, linking key areas of the city such as the Ross Abney Complex and the Mars Theater District.

“I believe in this community. I believe in the people, and I think that the community is really hungry for new activities and programming,” said Jason Shattuck, Director of LaFayette Parks & Recreation.

Whether you are a seasoned climber, a disc golf enthusiast, a skater, or simply looking for a beautiful place to walk, Traverse Park offers something for every member of the community. Residents are encouraged to arrive early, bring the whole family, and join in celebrating this milestone for LaFayette.
