Walker County Schools has announced new districtwide expectations for student use of personal electronic devices as the school system prepares for the new academic year and implements Georgia’s Distraction-Free Education Act.
Under the new policy, students who bring personal electronic devices to school must keep them powered off and stored inside a bookbag, shoulder bag or purse from the time they enter the school building until dismissal at 3:30 p.m.
School officials said the expectations are intended to minimize classroom distractions, maximize instructional time, increase student engagement and promote a safe, positive learning environment.
The school system also reminded parents and students that Walker County Schools is not responsible for personal electronic devices that are lost, stolen or damaged while on school property or during school-sponsored activities. Students who choose to bring phones or other electronic devices to school do so at their own risk.
District officials thanked families for their continued support and partnership as schools work to provide the best possible learning environment for students during the upcoming school year.
