The City of LaFayette is advising residents to expect temporary changes in their regular trash collection times as the sanitation department prepares to launch a new collection truck and adjust routes to better serve the city’s growing population.
According to the city, several new housing developments have been added in recent years, increasing the demand on sanitation services. To help meet that need, the department is adding a smaller garbage truck to its fleet. The new vehicle is designed to better navigate the narrower streets found in some of LaFayette’s newer neighborhoods, including areas that previously required the city to use an outside contractor for collection.
The new truck is scheduled to begin operating routes in August.
While residents’ scheduled collection days will remain the same, officials say the time trash is picked up may vary over the next several weeks as crews fine-tune the new routes.
The city said sanitation workers will be logging each stop during the transition to build an accurate record of collection times as the new routes are established.
To help avoid missed collections during the adjustment period, residents are encouraged to continue placing their trash cans at the curb the night before their scheduled pick-up day, which remains the city’s standard recommendation.
City officials say the temporary changes are part of an effort to improve sanitation services and accommodate LaFayette’s continued growth.
