The Walker County Board of Elections & Registration would like to inform all registered voters
of an important change affecting future School Board elections.
With the passage of House Bill 1245, the method of electing members of the Walker County
Board of Education has changed. Previously, School Board members were elected at large,
meaning all registered voters in Walker County voted for every School Board seat on the ballot.
Beginning with the November 3, 2026 General Election and Special Election, School Board
members will be elected by district. This means voters will only be eligible to vote for the School
Board member representing the district in which they reside.
The November ballot will include:
Walker County Board of Education District 2
Walker County Board of Education District 3
Special Election for Walker County Board of Education District 4 (Unexpired Term)
The Walker County Board of Elections & Registration will mail a new voter precinct card to
every registered voter once district assignments have been completed. The card will indicate the
voter’s assigned School Board district.
Please note:
These precinct cards are for informational purposes only and are not required in order to
vote.
Voters may view School Board district boundaries through the Walker County Tax
Assessor’s qPublic page. After locating the property, click the box labeled “School Board
Districts” on the left side of the map to display the district boundaries.
At this time, the district assignment process is still underway. We anticipate completing all voter
assignments by mid-August, at which time the new precinct cards will be mailed.
We appreciate the public’s patience as this transition is completed. Our office is committed to
ensuring every voter has accurate information well in advance of the November election.
